Who are Women in Laos
Hi, I’m Debbie Petlueng, founding member of WIL. I started WIL because I fell in love with Laos and Lao people over a 10 year period of living and working there and now want to give back. Living in Lao was a very special time of my life. I gained so much personally and professionally, I learnt a lot about living as a community and with gentleness and helpfulness. I have chosen to work specifically with women bringing up children on their own because it was Lao women who welcomed me as part of their community when I lived there, and gave me so much support. I also saw the impact on children when their mothers were struggling. Helping mothers to build the best life they can is I believe will bring most significant positive impact for children and so communities.
During my work with Save the Children around the world in more than 12 countries I also saw that some of the most powerful impacts projects had was when they worked one on one with people and looked at how, over at least a 2 year period, to bring change in all aspects of their lives.
